WHO WE ARE
We are a 501c3 non-profit charity committed to supporting the art of dance and dance education among low-income, at-risk and minority youth. LSODF partners with LaShelle's School of Dance and other local, regional and national dance organizations to give low-income, at-risk and minority youth access to dance training, performances, master classes, workshops, professional concerts and conferences in Michigan and beyond.
Dance is a proven a pathway to physical and mental well-being that supports the youth development process. It cultivates discipline, collaboration, academic achievement, creativity and many other critical skills.
Unfortunately, the majority of schools in our area do not offer dance training as a part of their curriculum due to budget cuts. Private dance programs tend to be exclusive to wealthier students because of the associated costs of training.
At the LSODance Foundation we implement programs that make dance concerts, master classes and educational dance programming accessible to underserved youth.
Our goals? To reach 2,000+ Detroit youth annually through in school dance programming and to provide funds for exceptional students to attend national conferences and summer intensives with professional dance organizations.
